Life Update: Health, University and More
Is everyone having a good weekend? Itโs been a while since weโve had a proper catch up and life update, so thatโs whatโs happening now. Time to sit down with a cup of tea and get up to speed.
Some things that have happenedโฆ
Crohnโs
(Warning: some medical stuff talked about here, so please skip if thatโs not your cup of tea and youโd rather just have an actual cup of tea)
I have mentioned this in posts and on social media, but hereโs the whole story. At the end of March, I went to hospital with what the doctors thought could be an appendicitis. However, the CT scan revealed I have Crohnโs! Bit of a shock after not having any issues relating to this my whole life. For those of you who donโt know, Crohnโs is a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). My scan showed that I had inflammation where my small and large intestines meet (again sorry for the detail), which is common for Crohnโs.
After 4 days in hospital, I was sent home with antibiotics and Iโm on the waiting list for a colonoscopy. While all the signs point to Crohnโs, a colonoscopy is needed to fully confirm the diagnosis. This is important as I might have to go on some strong medication to get the inflammation under control, so we need to be 100% sure.
So thatโs where the situation is at the moment, just waiting for my colonoscopy appointment. Itโs annoying because I canโt plan for the summer or anything as I donโt know what will happen with the results and any potential treatment. Feel like Iโm stuck in a bit of a limbo, but blogging is helping with that and Iโve discovered the Crohnโs blogger community!
Iโve changed my diet a bit too. Iโm currently gluten free, not because Iโm allergic to gluten or anything, but many people with Crohnโs are gluten free and reckon it helps. Obviously everyoneโs different, but if thereโs anything I can do to help the inflammation before the colonoscopy then Iโm all for it. Anti-inflammatory foods such as manuka honey, probiotics (especially kefir), tumeric and blueberries are now on the shopping list!

University
Itโs crazy how fast this year out has gone. In hindsight, Iโm so glad I decided not to go on my year abroad. The thought of being ill and going to hospital in France would add even more stress! The communication between NHS departments is not the best, so it doesnโt bear to think about what wouldโve happened if all this had occurred in another country!
Iโm back to university in September for my final year. It will be as Linguistics and Phonetics not French and Linguistics, but Iโm not having to redo any years/modules, so Iโm very grateful for that. My accommodation rent starts in July, so Iโm planning on spending some time in Leeds over the summer if all goes well.
Dissertation here we come!
