Rediscover Your Blog Niche: Remembering the Why
Something that has cropped up recently in the blogging world is remembering the โwhyโ of your content. Do you feel lost with your blog? Do you feel like you are trying to fit in with all the social media platforms and itโs overwhelming? Have you forgotten what your content purpose is? So many thoughts. Now more than ever, therefore, is the best time to take action and rediscover your blog niche.
But how do you rediscover your blog niche?
So, you realise you need to find that clarity again with your blog. I think a good place to start is go back to the beginning of your blogging journey. What topics did you set off to write about? What blogging and social media goals did you have? More importantly, why?
My number one rule.
The most important โwhyโ for me is passion and enjoyment. You can tell the difference between someone who creates content because they believe in it and are passionate about it, from someone who posts content they feel they should create in order to succeed.
Way back when I started blogging (2014!!), my original goal was to raise awareness for causes close to my heart such as mental health, my health conditions and eco-friendly living. I wanted to share content that would help others and make life a little easier and joyful, whether that was through blogging tips, creative ideas or wellbeing advice.
Over the years though, I have written about everything from travel and food, to fashion and beauty. My content was all over the place. As a result, I could easily go for months at a time blog-free because I didnโt truly enjoy what I was writing about.
2019 saw a turnaround though. I went self-hosted and focused on getting my blog back on track. Slowly, I started to reduce the topics I wrote about and as a result, I started posting regularly again, and whatโs more, I enjoyed the content I created. I become excited about publishing a new post or going on social media.
The lesson? Step back and think about what it is that you are passionate about and what purpose you want your content to have. Use that as a base for your niche. Even if your interests change, that’s fine too. The same rules apply!
I’ll admit, my blog is still not 100% focused on one topic, but I know the aim of my content and the messages I want to bring.

What next?
Once you have got that focus back and are enjoying creating content in your niche, people will slowly start recognising you as an expert in your field. This doesnโt happen overnight (notice the word slowly), but over time, people will come to you for your niche, and for me, this is what leads to more success.
Some of my favourite bloggers right now are those who have their niche sorted and create engaging content. If I want to read about motivation, I go to MSB Life. For ethical living, I go to Bethany Paige Austin. If I need some chronic illness support, Katie May is the place to be.
Even if your original goals are things such as collaborate with more brands, earn money, grow on social media platforms etc., things are full circle. Those big dreams and key successes always come back to finding your niche and enjoying creating the content you put out into the world.

This is something that I’m constantly working on, it can be so easy to get swept up in everything going on around you and forget your purpose. I’ve been gradually been refining my focus to running and wellbeing and been increasingly strict about the type of content I share and collaborations I do, hopefully it’ll pay off long term!
Iโm just back from a bit of a break on my blog due to lack of motivation and direction. These a some great tips and things to think of โฆ Iโll deffo refer to this post should I face that slump again! X
