Anti-Inflammatory Foods To Include in Your Diet
Ever since being told I could have Crohnโs (colonoscopy next week, so should finally receive some confirmation) Iโve switched up my diet to include anti-inflammatory foods, which Iโm hoping will help with my IBD. The problem is that so many products are rumoured to be good for you, that knowing which to try is difficult. However, Iโve done some research and these foods always crop up. Whatโs more, they arenโt only ideal for IBD, they are good for general digestive health.

Manuka Honey
What isnโt manuka honey good for? It helps various issues including sore throats, gut health, acne, wounds and more. It has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. The only issue is that it is expensive, especially if you want manuka honey with a high MGO. MGO is the amount of methylglyoxal, which is the substance in manuka honey which creates these health benefits. Whatโs more, manuka honey is only made in New Zealand due to the plant that the beesโ nectar comes from. The plus side is that you only need to have small amount each day – 2 teaspoons max – so one jar lasts a long time. Needless to say it’s worth investing in some, especially high MGO products.
Tumeric
Tumeric is really easy to insert into your everyday diet. Sprinkle it in sauces, curries, you name it! You can even use it in breakfast for porridge or in warm milk. It’s good to get organic and raw tumeric if possible to get the full benefits. I’m currently using the Aldi one because I ran out of my organic one, but I did have the Lucy Bee powder.
Ginger
Another simple food to add to your diet. Ginger biscuits anyone? Of course, it’s good to have fresh ginger to use in cooking, but if you’re going to opt for ginger powder, organic powders are best.
Kefir
You’ve probably heard that probiotics are good for gut health, and that is right. Rather than heading for the Actimel or whichever brand you use (I still have the Aldi version though for extra probiotics), kefir is the way to go as it contains more probiotics.
Probiotics are live microorganisms that benefit digestive health. While Actimel, Yakult etc. include the L.Casei strand which is good, kefir is a fermented yoghurt drink with even more probiotics including Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Plantarum, L.Casei and Lactobacillus Rhamnosus.
You can find kefir yoghurts/drinks in supermarkets now. The plain ones are a bit sour, but you get flavoured drinks too.
Blueberries
Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, and readily available at your local supermarket!

Have tried any of these anti-inflammatory foods? Do you think they make a difference?

I had not heard of a lot of these! Thanks for the info!
Iโve been eating honey more often now. Especially in skyr yoghurt and on pancakes! I also eat blueberries every day in my fruit box. I get so bloated with different foods but Iโve cut out dairy and I know one of them is that but there seems to be more but I canโt quite figure out what other foods are causing me to be bloated?!

Have you tried going gluten free? I feel like I’ve been less bloated since cutting out gluten. I really want to try the skyr yoghurt, it looks good! X
This is really helpful and many of these I didnโt know! Iโve had to cut gluten and egg from my diet but Iโm wondering if any of these might help me too x
I’d definitely try them! I know probiotics are great X
This is a great and informative post! I’ve never heard of Manuka honey but I’ll have to see if I can find them at my store! My family knows of the health benefits of turmeric so they’ve been sprinkling it on whatever food is being cooked, whether it’s soup or some meat dish! I had wondered why our food was turning yellow but that’s the reason ? thank you for sharing this helpful post Megan! ?

Aw thank you for the lovely comment! The downside of turmeric is the yellow stains everywhere! Definitely try manuka honey, it’s a miracle food! X
I used to have Tumeric quite a bit in my food but I completely went off it (and spices all together tbh) and I’m like ahhh to start using it again!! (How pathetic haha!) Maybe I shall give it a shot tomorrow…!!
Just a little bit in food isn’t that noticeable. Just turns everything yellow! X
This is a really interesting post, especially as I have psoriatic arthritis. It’s always important to know which foods I can incorporate into my diet to help my condition, so thank you so much for sharing xxx
If you have arthritis, then absolutely worth trying!
