5 Places to Find Mental Health Support Online
Itโs World Mental Health Day today (10th October 2019 for anyone looking back on this post). As someone who has anxiety, Iโm often looking for ways to help my mental health. The trouble is that waiting lists for services such as counselling are often long and unless you can afford to pay for private appointments, it can take a while to be seen professionally. As a result, there will be times when you need to manage your mental health.
Over the past few weeks, my anxiety has not been good. Itโs dissertation year and thereโs so much going on with Crohnโs appointments and the like, that trying to deal with it all gets tough. While Iโve not started my main series of counselling yet, I have been shown a few online resources that are really helpful, so thought Iโd share some of my findings. Obviously these arenโt things that will solve any mental health issues, but they are places that you might find some reassurance and coping strategies. Whatโs more, finding mental health support online is useful as you might be able to find advice immediately before you see someone in person.
Mindwell
Mindwell is actually a website focused on mental health services in Leeds, but it has some great general resources and tips on how to manage your mental health. It is worth having a look at regardless of your location.
Big White Wall
I personally havenโt used Big White Wall, but for university students looking for 24 hour support, you can post anonymously and receive advice from other members and the trained โwall guidesโ who are mental health advisors. I often see it in the recommended list of mental health support online at university, so maybe check it out if you think it could work for you.
Blogging
There are so many fantastic mental health bloggers in the community now. Whether you want self-care tips or stress relief advice, ask for blog post recommendations from fellow bloggers.
I also find that blogging itself is a self-care practice for me. If Iโm feeling stressed, Iโll take some time to write, read blog posts and generally enjoy some creative time.

Headspace and Calm
Headspace and Calm are 2 popular mental health apps to try out. While you can pay for the premium services, both have good free options for meditation, sleep and relaxation. Iโm currently using Calm, but have used Headspace before and would recommend it!
Honest Guys
My go-to YouTube channel for guided meditations. The Honest Guys provide all kinds of meditations depending on how you feel.
Some of the meditations are also on Spotify too.ย
Spotify is a useful tool as well when it comes finding relaxing music and meditation playlists.

Do you have any recommendations for mental health support online? If so, let me know. I’d love to add some more to my list!
