Hello 2022: Setting Intentional Words for the Year
Hello 2022! A couple of weeks late on the blog greeting, but Happy New Year nonetheless.
I don’t know whether ‘Happy New Year‘ is the right saying in the craziness that is the 2020s but perhaps wishing for joy and good health and most importantly, having hope is what we need to do to balance out the challenging aspects of the decade so far.
At a time when resolutions and goals are being set, I prefer to go down the ‘themes’ or ‘words for the year’ route. Plans and goals can change. Having themes allows for these changes and the rollercoaster ride that is life, but what they give you is a code to live by and can help how you approach your everyday.
With that in mind, I’m sharing my 2022 themes with you. Most are carried over from 2021 as they still feel right for where life stands at the start of 2022.
Calm
We are not rushing. We are taking our time to live and appreciate every moment. We are embracing stillness and the benefits of pausing every now and then to just breathe. One thing at a time. Calm.
Grounded
In 2022, I want to feel grounded. Not just going through the motions, but really living in the moment and feeling connected to everything I do and the world I live in. When I hear the word ‘grounded’, it gives me the sense of feeling truly rooted to the Earth, and serves as a guide for leading a more sustainable life.
Release
‘Release’ came from doing a Yoga with Adriene practice of all things. The idea of releasing what is no longer serving you. This might be a habit, thought pattern or behaviour, which you can’t let go of in one night, but you can identify them and work to release them over the course of the year.
Balance
Balance is open for interpretation. We often see the phrase ‘work-life balance’, but surely work is a part of life, not separate? Balance can be as simple as giving time to the things that matter to you. And hey, if you are clumsy like me, maybe you want to improve your physical balance. Yoga is helping. Putting it out into the universe now – I will be able to do a crow pose by the end of 2022.
Adventure
Adventure doesn’t have to be travelling to somewhere on the other side of the world. It could be doing something which pushes you outside of your comfort zone and helps you grow. It could be exploring somewhere close to home which you’ve never visited before. It could be pursuing a new hobby or taking the next step in a passion project. Adventure for me is being open to new possibilities and seeing where life takes you.
If you’ve never connected with the idea of setting resolutions at the start of a new year, why not try setting themes instead?

Yess I love this idea! I’ve done a bit similar and mine is Freedom ๐ I want to be free of worry, free of negative thoughts etc – just free ๐ Hope this year is a great one for you Megan โค๏ธ
Thank you Millie. Excited to see what’s next for you in 2022!
