5 Ways to Stay Calm in Everyday Life
Thereโs no denying it, life can be hectic and sometimes, even the littlest of things can seem the most irritating. From earphones which wonโt untangle to not having any chocolate left in the cupboard, getting caught up in the chaos of everyday life can make it hard to keep your cool. There are ways of stopping the stress before it comes though, so that we can all enjoy some tranquillity. With the smallest of lifestyle changes, which a) donโt take lots of time out of your day and b) leave your earphones intact and save them from scissor destruction, your lifestyle can be calmer. With that in mind, here are my 5 ways to stay calm in everyday life, to keep the stress at bay and make you feel more motivated to take on the world.
Have a Cup of Tea

You know how much I love a good cup of tea. Popping the kettle on is one of my first ports of call if Iโm feeling flustered. Thereโs a trend to grab a tea (or coffee) to takeaway and not appreciate the benefits itโs doing for you. I often think of a cup of tea as a relaxing, hot bubble bath in drink form. Itโs too hot for a bath when the weather is hot, but that sigh of relief when stepping into a bath is the same sigh when you have that first sip of tea. Instead of scolding your tongue as you attempt to down your tea whilst doing other tasks, just take 5 minutes to sit down with mug in hand and live in the moment. Itโs one of the easiest ways to find calm in moments of stress.
Ocean

Being in Devon over the summer of 2018 made me realise how relaxing the ocean is.ย Thereโs something so calming about that open space in front of you, devoid of the clutter of everyday life. You donโt have to live near the sea to feel the benefit either. Go on YouTube or Spotify and you can find an array of soundtracks based around the sounds of the ocean. Find somewhere comfy to sit or lie down, and close your eyes, whilst listening to the sounds of the sea.
Fresh Air

Fresh air is not just about exercise. I mean, I donโt find going to the gym calming. Motivating and satisfying, sure, but when thereโs music blaring around you and people lifting weights, thereโs nothing calm about that. To exercise and feel calm at the same time, going out into the fresh air is key. Whether thatโs doing a 20-minute walk where you live, visiting your local park, or if youโre lucky enough, going on cliff walks and swimming in the sea. Reminding yourself to breathe properly and feeling the fresh air fill your lungs is calming in itself. Iโm not usually one for spending time in the ocean, but I have thoroughly enjoy swimming in the sea and admiring the scenery around me. Itโs refreshing and uplifting, ideal for staying calm.
Visiting Other Worlds

I couldnโt think of a clear sub-title for this section, but Iโll explain what I mean by this. If youโre feeling stressed, take a moment to escape. Of course, Iโm not saying that you should ignore challenges in your everyday life, but you can take a break from them and give your mind some distraction. Whether itโs listening to music, reading a book, or watching TV, immersing yourself in a good plot or some great lyrics gives you the chance to have a rest and emerge ready to get stuff done!
You’re NOT Alone
Sometimes, if weโre not careful, life can get the better of us. To avoid stress and the feeling of wanting to pull your hair out, remember that you are not alone, which hopefully will make you calmer. There will always be someone to support you, and you shouldnโt be afraid to ask for help and say that you are strugglin.
Let me know if you have found these tips helpful to stay calm in everyday life, so the phrase โrunning around like a headless chickenโ never has to be used again!

Ah thank you! Glad you liked it!
Completely agree with you about tea, YASSS! And I love being by the sea, the combination of fresh air and ozone always makes me feel so relaxed. I used to ride a lot and I always found that being out on a horse for an hour or so made me so chilled and calm. I wish I had time to go riding more often now but I’ll have to make do with tea instead ๐ lovely tips, thank you for sharing xx
